University Secretariat - About Us

Lakehead University’s governance structure is bicameral (two streams) and is established by the University Act.

One stream of decision making (the financial matters of the University) is represented by the Board of Governors. The other (academic matters of the University) is represented by Senate.

The University Secretariat Office, under the leadership of the University Secretary, provides support for the University's governing bodies including Board of Governors, Senate, Ogimaawin/Aboriginal Governance Council (formerly Aboriginal Management Council), and their Standing Committees.

The Office is responsible for maintaining the formal records for these groups and acts as a resource for information and advice on governance related policies, and procedures to all members of the University community.
